1960s Deakin Revival: Rumpus room

The starting point:

Our clients craved a home makeover designed for their most relaxing retirement. The rumpus room, they said, would need to accommodate a variety of uses: family gatherings, business visitors, relaxing evenings by the fireplace, and access from the adjacent pool area for lounging.

The journey:

Not every project needs interior design work, but this one did! The room required spatial planning, specification of all hard surfaces, paint selection, tiles, appliances, hardware, fixtures, and more. We then decorated a functional furniture layout and layered in curtains, custom rugs, furniture, soft furnishings, and those final touches — art and accessories.

The investment:

Construction budget: > $100K

Furnishings budget: $1,500 per m2 (excluding design fees)

Decor: Interior Design with All Stages Custom Decorating

The destination:

Inspiration for the rumpus room came from our client’s collection of Papua New Guinean artifacts, which influenced our palette, decor, and many furnishings. We made the fireplace a stunning focal feature and layered custom, classic elements and warm tones for that effortlessly collected look.
