The starting point:
About 12 years earlier our clients built their home when the children were small and as they grow up it was time to repaint and update the “make do” furnishings that one lives with when children are small. The home was immaculately cared for. There were some spaces like the entry that had not received the finished touches that come with accessorising a space. Modernity balanced with country coziness seems to be the challenge.
The journey:
Our consideration focussed on how to work spaces and new furniture for daily family use and treatment of the underused Rumpus room for the kids.
In the family room Entertainment joinery was removed in place for a cozy stone fireplace which is an essential requirement for a country home in Canberra. Modern farm house easily describes the cozy look and feel our client was going for but it needed to worked in with the existing contemporary kitchen which thankfully had warm tones. the kitchen joinery eventually influenced our stone selected for the fireplace. When it comes to colour, sage green was our client’s favourite so we made it the starting point, please note Mum’s linen sage green swivel chair by the fire.
The powder room was given a make over with textured wallpaper, art work and floral arrangement to soften and update the space.
The rumpus room we designed for the kids for study and fun . Joinery and furniture was supplied and installed. Practical and pretty office chairs were reupholstered.
we designed and supplied textured sheer and block out curtains across the spaces to tie it all in. Wall paper strategically provided texture to the rooms.
The investment:
Fireplace and renovations. Approximately $150 000

The destination:
Everyone loves diving in and cozying up to the oversized love chair in the rumpus room. The kids are using the living room more often for study and games and we predict more hanging out as they reach their late teens. Frequent family and friends gatherings are accommodated with ease and the neighbours are asking where everthing is from. These rooms feel finished at last.
